Noir et Blanc

    Keywords: Books & Publications

Noir et Blanc (Black and White) was a magazine published in Paris since the 1980's. For its quality content it mostly depended on Maitre Lim. As retired Korean professor of languages - he read classical Chinese, Japanese and Korean, but also English, French and German - he contributed many game comments to professional game and essays. Most were serious reflections on history and philosophy, some were more frivolous, like a typology of players strengths and animals: a badger is a mere 5-kyu, he as a 5-dan is a tiger (Siberian, because of his white hair). Several articles by his hand were translated by Tom Keel for GO MOON. In Paris on a daily basis - and in Summer at the 'Stage de l'Eté' (Summer school) - he trained a generation of French players, many of whom reached to his 5-dan level.
