After reviewing this game I was convinced I was losing quite early on. I decided I was decisively behind after in diagram 6, and started looking for the worst moves I made in the opening sequence. I became convinced that the worst mistake was already in diagram 1.
(which I hadn't even considered) gives black the problem of having to develop the corner and the pincer stone at the same time (which isn't possible). I think the mistake stems from worry about being too passive. Here is a possible variation that looks more modest for black. But I suppose I must learn to appreciate the merits of positions like this.
I assume in diagram 3 should have been answered in the corner. During the game I was too happy to have an opportunity to crawl out.
The black top center group will continue to be trouble. Any recommendations for the next black move after in diagram 4? I thought I might still have a chance if I could build along the right side or the bottom.
At the high cost of a tenuki at the top right I played out my plan of building along the side. Despite there being so many urgent points by now, I am happy with my choice of in diagram 6, erasing the trouble of the weak group and building some strength (on the other hand, white should probably have played in diagram 5 to the left of in diagram 6). But despite all this, my conclusion is that I am way behind at the end of diagram 6. The top right looks very vulnerable and will most likely not give any points. The top left doesn't give points and it doesn't look as if the wall can be used for much. It's a lost game for black, as the result eventually confirmed after another 118 moves.
And the only move I'm really unhappy with is in diagram 1!
