Izumi Shusetsu

(泉秀節, 1844-1904) Strong player who remained an amateur but was eventually recognised as 5 dan, and set up the Osaka branch of Hoensha. Earlier name was Tsunejiro (恒治郎) and Yohei (興兵衛).

Pupil of Nakagawa Junsetsu, of the Inoue school. His own pupil was Tasaka Shintaro. He was also teacher to early female professional Yoshida Misako.
