Hayashi Genbi

    Keywords: People

Hayashi Genbi (林元美, Genbi Monnyu, 1778 - 1861) was a Japanese 8-dan professional go player, although his promotion to 8-dan was somewhat controversial. Originally a Honinbo house pupil, he became the eleventh head of the Hayashi house (1819-1848); and was the author of the famous problem collections Gokyo Shumyo and Gokyo Seimyo, the posthumous three-volume series Rankado Kiwa, and many others.

He has been suspected of falsely claiming that some of Huang Longshi's games were ancient games involving Japanese players.[1] However, it's difficult to say whether his intentions were done purposely or in ignorance.
