White kills

The clamp at W1 kills.

[Diagram]
Shortage of liberties

Although B2 onwards attempt to capture the White stone in a connect-and-die...

Shortage of liberties

... Black finds himself unable to play the final atari at the circled point - it is a self-atari due to shortage of liberties.

[Diagram]
Black descends

If B2 descends or plays at a, then W3 connects out and Black is left with only one eye.

[Diagram]
White doesn't kill

W1 is a mistake, because B2 retreats and makes an eye at a. Note that B2 must not block at b, otherwise White plays at B2 and reverts backs to the solution diagram!

White doesn't kill

To further demonstrate why Black lives, should W3 attempts to crawl in, then B4 is an atari on W3. This requires White to connect at W5, allowing B6 to make his second eye and thus saving the Black group.

thanatos13: I think the point of this is to play in a vital point that connects. This looks a bit like the belly tesuji, that's what I look for first anyways.
