Beginner Exercise 252 / Attempts

Gresil: it seems to me that it indeed is a threat: if black ignores W1, he'll run out of liberties before being able to connect:

[Diagram]
B2 tenuki = oops

unkx80: Oops, your attempt is not quite right. Please try again.

MrTenuki: Well, tenuki is always an option, because this is not a threat :-)

Let's try to solve this by the brute-force method...

[Diagram]
Case 1: After B2 tenuki

After B6, white is in atari. If white connects at a, black plays B8 at c and connects. If white plays W7 anywhere else, black captures two stones at a and connects. And if W5 is played anywhere else, black will play B6 at W5 and connect.

Case 2: After B2 tenuki

After B4, black is obviously connected. The same applies if W3 is played at a or b.

[Diagram]
Case 3: After B2 tenuki

This transposes to case 1. As stated above, black connects.
