Where should Black have played earlier

[Diagram]
Black's approach

Bill: There is something to be said for the large knight's approach at B7. White cannot put much pressure on B7, and W8 - W10 is a normal result. Then Black can still get the last big play on the bottom.

Charles W10 is normal? Takagawa played a.

Bill: Takagawa was beyond normal. ;-)

another idea

zinger: Perhaps black can settle the top left this way, and switch to a or b.

From Professional Review

Velobici: Professional comment: With B2, Black can make a base directly. Because W1 is a loose pincer.
