Could someone please explain how to proceed with white in this position? (With the black thickness white already seems to have a problem...)

White to play after B1

HolIgor: I think that white has to secure the exit to the center from lower left first.

How would you estimate this position? Did white gain or lose in the last 10 moves?

HolIgor: white lost the exit to the center. That is big. I think that white could afford to lose the corner. It was not an awful lot of points.

White loses the corner.

For example in the variation up to 8 white is alive, yet to be limited, has 3 points instead of 7 but there is some possibiliity to attack the black's group at the bottom.

JoelR: So given B1 does not attack anything, perhaps W2 should be at the circled point instead of the right side? How does retaining the corner compare to continuing the right-hand framework?

Many thanks!

Dieter: I thought B1 was more active, at first, but probably White W6 and W8 are too easy. BTW, doesn't Black have to play first here (see above caption).
