Alpar Kilinc

Born in Erzurum, Turkey on December 25th, 1969. Founder of the Turkish Go Players Association and founder of Turkish Go with Mehmet Dardeniz. He was a mechanical engineering student at [ext] METU.

He was introduced to Go through the book Shibumi. He was known to be interested in far eastern philosophy, especially zen and martial arts.

1988 Met M.Dardeniz (This is very important! They had no master-teacher. They improved their go only by playing together and reading. Remember, that in those days there was no internet in Turkey!)(20k).

1989 Built first Go Club of Turkey in METU

1990 Started a go club under an association.

1992 Published his book (First Go book to be published in Turkish) about go. Büyüleyici Oyun (Mesmerizing Game)

1995 Founded "Go Players Association" (1996 Turkish Go Players Assoc.)

1995 Published the first Go Magazine in Turkey: Tasli Yol (Stony Path)

In 1995 Alpar Kilinc passed away tragically with his two friends, Cem Kendi and Funda Kahveci, in a traffic accident.

It is annually organized a memorial tournament for Alpar Kilinc by Turkish Go Players' Association and Middle East Technical University Go Club.
