This position was researched using Zbaduk - Dieter

Hane below

B1 is not joseki but might be considered when Black has stones on the left side making White's life there not so easy, or when defending upper side territory.

Here we discuss what happens without such context.

Counter hane

[Diagram]
Hane

White's basic response is a counter hane. Black can extend at B3 and take sente after White's capture. Black has influence but is left with a vulnerability, while White is alive in the corner with good aji and the potential of developing to the left side.

[Diagram]
Hane on both sides

If Black hanes again at B3, then after White's capture at W6, Black has to come back and defend the cutting point with B7. This is the same result as if Black in the previous diagram had not taken sente to play elsewhere but turned at B3 here.

For an early invasion, B3 here is probably giving away sente too easily.

Stretch

If W2 here, Black can play elsewhere. Locally, a, b and c are possible

Hane outside

[Diagram]
Hane outside

W2 is an overplay. B3 cuts and White has to crawl towards life. There will hardly be time to save the cutting stone W2.

Save the cutting stone

If White draws out the cutting stone with W1, Black develops on both sides with B4 and B6, leaving White afloat in the center and small life in the corner.
