Mark 356
I discovered Go in a book of board games at the age of 10. Unfortunately, learning Go alongside Othello and checkers and mancala made me think that Go is only about as difficult, or as complicated, as Othello, and most of the games I played for the next 10 years consisted mostly of straight lines and very large captures.
I learned that Go is a little more complicated than checkers in about 2004, when I watched Hikaru no Go and promptly created a "Mark356" KGS account, and have played seriously on and off since then.
As of now, May 2011, I go by MarkJGC on KGS and am 7k. I am also currently working though printouts of Cho Chikun's Encyclopedia of Life and Death from Tasuki's site. My favorite KGS user is Bloodarena, and my favorite Go players are Honinbo Shuusaku, Honinbo Shuei, Go Seigen, and Yi Ch'ang-ho. I do not like games that end by time.
